Research

I love generating knowledge, learning from it and applying it to practice.  At Healthcare Communication Matters we offer research expertise based on your individual needs.

Our strength is in qualitative data collection and analysis.  I love ethnographic research where you can really immerse yourself in a clinical environment and get a real feel for what is going on.  We have skills in:

  • Semi-structured interviewing
  • Observational work (I am so nosey!)
  • Focus groups
  • Developing surveys

Our research experience has particularly focused on:

  • healthcare communication and information exchange
  • Consultation support tool
  • experiential learning
  • reflective practice and
  • Offering constructive feedback

Other research includes, trying to understand the early symptoms of oesophageal cancer, exploring women’s experiences of miscarriage in early pregnancy assessment units and understanding women’s experiences of breast cancer screening in BAME populations, patients experiences of using support groups on facebook to share information.  We have worked with or consulted with senior clinicians and Professors, Public Health England and Cancer Research UK.

Student feedback:

‘Lynn co supervised my Masters in Palliative care. To be frank I don’t think I could have got through it without her! Not only did she really encourage me all the way, when there were many times I just wanted to give in, she showed a really interest and passion in the subject area. She really engaged with what I was trying to do.  It is her friendly disposition, calm  manner and thoughtful approach that make her such a pleasure to work with and I hope one day to pursue my PhD and it would be Lynn who I would want to supervise me, without any doubt at all.’
